coils and timing lights

Postby ridinhi » Sat Nov 24, 2007 9:23 pm

I was checking the timing and noticed the light was very sporadic. I moved the pickup along the wire with the same effects. I did leave the ignition switch on for a while recently and the coil got real hot. Could the sporadic lighting be a sign of a bad coil?

You are looking down the right road I recently had the same problem the engine would run untill the coil got hot and then I had intermittent spark. Replaced the coil and the problem went away. Steve

Could be the coil but I would check the inductive pick-up on the light. Make sure the pick-up is closed good. If all looks good, see if you can borrow another light before you go and buy a coil.
