Has anyone had their early Cub seat reupholstered with oem canvas? If so, Who, Where, & When.

I have never delat with him, but Darrell Darst who is the one referred to on the list has a great reputation. He researched the way IH originally made the covers and duplicates it. Not cheap though, last I heard it was around $125 to redo one, and that has been 3 or 4 years ago.

do you think Darrel would uhpolster an origional cub deluxe seat bottom with the springs still intact it has a covering on it right now but i wanted it to be redone for when the 55 is restored . the sping cushions are much better riding than the nicest reproduction cushions

I will offer this: If your Cub is a '48, the seat material was probably black. (I think Darrell can do that too.) I was all heated up to put a black seat on my 1948 Super A, even bought one of Darrell's silver seats, (He kept some on hand for people that didn't even have a seat pan to send him!) then did a little more research and found out that at least through 1948, they were black. If you look at original photos from this era, you'll see black instead of silver.

I really like the look of the silver seats, but I ended up going with a new, repro seat pan with black vinyl. It's very comfortable and has the original look.

Hi All,

I had the pan seat for my 61 cub done by Darrell 3 or 4 years ago. At that time and maybe still, he does not do anything with the drain hole in the seat, He just covers over that area as well, so when you get the pan seat back there is no drain hole. I don't know if this is what he is doing now. He repaints the bottom of the seat. I am happy with his work.

The seat looks great, you did mention "no drain hole". Anybody know of someone who does the seat as nice,with the drain hole?

Darrell's info has been on the Specialty Services page since the beginning. I have yet to meet or talk with him, but based on what others of whom I have great respect for, and they speak highly of him, I have no doubts as to the quality of his work. When you get the kind of glowing reports Darrell does.. then that should speak for itself.

Now, as to the drain hole. I have run across some controversy over that one. To me.. and I have one of those temporary padded seat covers, but as of late, I tend to go get an old pillow to sit on instead of the seat pad.

I find that the hole doesn't work so well, and actually lets water accumulate on the seat pan itself. Yes I know that this is probably a common function of this type of seat pad, but it is a PITA.... Gord who has one similar to Darrells and was done by and extremely handy uphoslterer.. Gord also does not like his drain hole silver duck padded seat cover and would rather have the full pad.

I know that the hole is there for Cubs that primarily live outdoors and occassionally for those Cubs who live indoors, but the roof of their habitat doesn't exactly keep all the dark out But for a Cub that lives indoors a holeless seat would be a good thing.
