Bearing cap

Postby Yogie » Sat Sep 22, 2007 8:36 pm

Is the 4 bolt bearing cap on the rear finals different on the left and right?
The left side is solid and shallow. My right is missing a piece, the bolted part is there but something is missing in the center and would need to deeper than the left.. does anyone understand?

no cover on the right side. that is where the drive sprocket for a planter attaches.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Yogie:

The Cap is Item # 38 Part # 350 821 R1 Cap LH Rear Axle Bearing. You can clearly see the RH Axle Bearing does not have the Cap.

I have a few small missing parts, should I contact someone like Ralph for these little things or run adds in the wanted section?

I do have some oil coming from that side up in the brake area. I plan to pull each side and replace all seals. Do you have any idea how many are in this section? Just wondering...

one on each side of transmission ( which is probably where your oil is coming from). One on top shaft of each final. One one each axle ( shaft has to be pressed out), and one on the planter drive.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Yogie:

If you are missing parts, check with Ralph at Ralph's Cubs. He has all kinds of stuff. Lot faster, lot cheaper than trying to find em individually. I order stuff from Ralph and JP and Tom, cause it is far easier and quicker to get em from these fine establishments than trying to find them locally. Usually the stuff I need, David and his Dad, very seldom have em...

If you are leaking fluid around the brakes the tranny could be over filled. Check to make sure the tranny is filled properly. If it is overfull the new seals could still leak.

I just picked this thing up today so I don't know just what I've got. I power washed that area after dropping the fast hitch and drove it around some tonight and now there's no dripping, I think it may fill up the brake area before over flowing. Just my guess...

trannies are notorius for getting water in them. take the top plate off with the shifter in nuetral and look. odds are it is a carmel color which means water drain fill with kerosene. run it around with no load on it and then drain again. this time use compressed air and kerosene get it as clean as you can then fill with hytran or 90 wt. see if your seals leak after that. probably not and your trannie will be quieter and the bearings won't need replaced

This thing has set outside the last few years and I'll bet there's some water in there. I just took a fast look and found the drain plug, but the fill is on top. Ho much fluid goes back in?
I see the gasket seeping some where the axle housing bolts together under battery and also on the rear plate. I'm going to catch the fluid and see how much is in there.
I've run this tractor today for about an hour just for fun, tonight I'll start from the front going through it and replacing seals and such as needed.
Where is the best place to buy these seals or do I take the number off of them and stop at my local parts store?

Yogie:

The Lubrication Section starts on McCormick Farmall Cub Owner's Manual 1950 - Page 18, This will help you as you go through the Cub checking on levels and lubrication points.
