Now for a crazy question. Which way are you putting in the dipstick, "full and low" on the upside or downside? Perhaps it isn't getting all the way down to the pan?
I've always wondered this exact question. When I put the dipstick in with the "full and low" facing up it shows the oil as below full. When I put the dipstick with "full and low" facing down it goes to the full mark. Last time I changed the oil I put in exactly three quarts since as I recall that's what the manual says. So which was is the correct way to have the dipstick? Maybe I should have the dipstick faced up with more oil?

The only answer to the question is the dipstick is not seating all the way down on the tube.
or the dipstick housing has been replaced and the housing not seated to the proper depth.
Unless of course the White demo models had a higer capacity crankcase to hold the extra oil that will certinally leak all over the white

There is something up with the oil level in these engines. On my 154, I put 3 qts of castrol in to flush after doing a oil pan gasket, it was full to the top mark. Drained it out, put in IH low ash oil ( didn't start yet) and it was 1/4 " low. I topped it off and checked it every morning ( after running the day before) and it was full. Then checked it the next day and it was 1/4" over. When I mow in the summer sometimes I am a little low then the next week a little high.
