Finally, Some Snow to Plow with Ellie and my Cub-54 Blade!

Postby Rudi » Thu Jan 18, 2007 8:20 pm

Finally after almost 2-1/2 years into this project, my Father-in-llaw's GodFather/Uncle's Cub-54 is finally finished and mounted up on Ellie-Mae. Has been for almost a week. Unfortunately, like much of the eastern seaboard, we haven't had enough snow to warrant a blade -- UNTIL 2 days ago :!:

We go dumped on a bit. On Tuesday evening by 2200 AST, we had about 8 or 9 inches down which necessitated my getting some seat time on Ellie.

boy, what a difference in performace with the lighter more Cub-sized Cub-54 Blade setup. The first night I spent 2 hours plowing the driveway with the plow in the middle index hole and had a blast. Could have done it quicker if I had already had the right hand 12 degree index hole pinned instead. However I did that the next night and still managed to have almost 2 hours of fun. Em did not want to stand on the deck in the very cold weather to take pics of me playing down the 200 foot section to the shop.. I did not go to the brook yet.. maybe the next time.

Next major job will be to finish the Hydraulic Project for this Blade. Then it will be easier, and I won't have to get off of Ellie to change the offset angle. I will still however manage to find a way to prolong the fun each succeeding session.

Boy, did I ever enjoy the snowfall. We are supposed to get possibly another 4 to 6 inches tonight.. on top of the almost 12 we got in the last two falls. Yeah :!:  :D :D :D

What do you think?
1/2" on the driveway, should I plow it off?

Nice pictures! I'm getting really jealous, no snow here yet. We got a dusting tonight, nothing more that a big tease

I think Rudi was grinning from ear to ear. He just waited till dark to plow so he did'nt look like he was having to much fun. Sorry Rudi

Rudi I can totally relate to the big grin on your face :D . We finally got some snow a couple days ago and it is snowing right now. I must say that getting those 2+ hours of seat time brought some memeries back for me. I have not spent that much time on the ole boy in years. I usually plow with my truck witch is much master and warmer.
But it was so much fun running around with the Cub, Kathryn wanted to plow but she can't reach the peddels yet. I think that I will have to add some extentions for her because I am not as patient.

I have to say that the best thing that I have done to it so far this winter was to fix the lights :D (had a cold solder on the terminal from the power source wire). They have not worked in years and have never had the ambition. :( I know what was I thinking, that's it I wasn't. :{_}:.

Can't wait till tonight for some more plowing time.

Dave

After seeing Rudi's pics and the follow-up comments, I'm beginning to think a psychologist/psychiatrist might have a ready-made client base here. Where else do you find a group who nor only relish snowfall, but revel in it !! They use smaller blades on their tractors so it takes longer to plow. They take pictures at night of plowing in progress.
There must be a logical explanation for this behavior - I hope it's never uncovered !! Obsessive/compulsive behavior is a good thing when channeled along these lines. Little wonder this site can become a healthy addiction - you guys are the best !!! (CTDave - speaking of addictions - got that door stop down on the corner safe at home yet ??? hehe) Craig

By the way all:

Can you detect the difference in Ellie :?: :!: Something has changed... what is it and where can you see it in the pics above :?: :?:  :D

Craig, when you finally get a Cub, you will understand. Uncle Sigmund and his followers really could lose their shirts financially if they ever understood the full effects of owning a Cub. Shrinks not required... Image when you have a Cub :!: :D unless it is shrink tube  :!:

Rudi - are you talking about the tires being turned around the right way?
