Ok, they want to sell it to me. BUT

Postby CTdave » Thu Jan 18, 2007 3:00 pm

The franchise market with the (late 50s?) Cub sittin on the side just called me back. I think their out of their minds! They want $1200 for the cub. I have pictures posted (my gallery is CTdave) & they are titled "unknown year", not to be confused with my 1948. It has lots of attachments but I guess I need to take my hand crank over & see if the engine is free. I'll also check the drive train. It is all there & in damn good shape for sitting for 12-15 years. The only visual trouble spot is the heavy rust along the lower edge of the fuel tank. In the worst case mechanical scenario, what could this be parted out for dollar wise? I'd hate to part out a complete cub but........
Take a look at the pics & let me know. If it is locked up, I'd counter their offer quite a bit.
Thanks once again!
Dave

Dave: I realize a camera hides a multitude of sins, but it looks very decent to me. Why not take your battery, crank and a quart of gas down there and fiddle with it. Better yet, maybe they'd let you take it home for a few days to tinker with it !! Sounds like they saw the eagerness on your face and that triggered their greed factor. I'd bet they'd take $1000 if you walked in and laid 10 $100;s on the counter. The implements' values have been well documented here by the experts, but I wouldn't let it slip away for that price. Why isn't it already on your trailer?

Dave: I see the set of cultivators. Are there other implements which come with the tractor? If so, selling the ones which you won't use may lower the price of the tractor to a level which you are comfortable with. Dan

Dave: I'm living the Cub thing vicariously through you. It's easy to rationalize this one - just tell the wife the Bertram's for sale........and then forget to sell it !! It's a beautiful thing. Let's hope the Cub fan quote isn't confused with the baseball team or you'd want to wear a black arm band. Just go plunk down the cash and lug it home - great winter project. Craig

Go for it! The price is right, in my book :!: And it's local, which is a bonus

I swear, I am laughing out loud at the responses  You guys are too damn funny!! I do have a "secret boat account" and I'm putting farmall things through there as well. Let's just say I'll tell her that I helped out the store by removing an old piece of junk & all I have to do is paint it & I can sell it for big bucks to buy her more jewlery. Funny though, the darn thing isn't selling  Every day is Christmas for my wife so she better not complain.

I always get the last two words in with her...........................

yes dear
