adding hydrolics to a non hydro cub

Postby huntingpal » Sun Dec 24, 2006 8:25 am

I am still thinking about switching over my non touch control cub to hydrolics. After looking over my 59 with TC I noticed it has a longer dipstick/tube than the 48 with no TC. Is the longer tube and dipstick needed to get the hydrolic lines through to the TC block? or will it all work without thwe longer tube/dipstick? thanks for any assistance

To my mind.. the length of the dipstick has nothing to do with whether or not Touch Control Hydraulics and be installed or not. Many 47 Cubs have had Hydraulics or TC retro-fitted during the course of their life. Granny my 47 will get my second hydraulic setup - as she already has the Hydraulic pump installed. It should be a relatively easy install even for me to put the TC on Granny. Mostly it will be connecting the manifolds to the Hydraulic Pump and to the reservoir and bolting the reservoir down and in place. The most complicated part will be putting on the controls I think.. mostly cause there is more than 2 screws involved..  :D

Thanks guys I was just woried that when I put the lines on that I might not be able to get the dipstick out to check oil level without the longer dipstick. All looks good -- thanks again. Ralph what is the best way to get ahold of you? I have tried e-mails a couple times but get no reply. I think you told me once it is something in your server blocking it??? I am a computer dumby for sure  I have had problems getting or sending some e-mails because of our set up to prevent virusus and smam coming in on our end of the e-mail so it might be at my end. Thanks again

Rudi,

Maybe my concern is unwarranted, but has Granny's pump ever been run without the rest of the system in place? I expect the life of a pump without hydraulic oil would be very short.

George:

I am not sure. That is why one of the things on my to do list is to check it out and see what is there. I have a feeling that it may need a rebuild at best and at worst replacement.. but I am fervently hoping not.... but one never knows... :!: :? :?
