C3 Mower

Postby DaveB » Sun Nov 12, 2006 5:38 pm

I need to replace the bearings on the blade spindles. I removed the 3 bolts on the belt pulley but I cannot figure out how to remove the pulley. Is the pulley a press fit and do I need a puller to remove the belt pulley from the spindle? Thanks for any help Dave. It is a C3 mower

Dave,
there should be either two or three threaded holes, run the bolts you took out into the treaded holes and tighten them evenly, the pulley should come loose.... be sure to tighten evenly , or you coud break a bolt off.

John I did what you said and it worked perfect on the center and right side spindles but the left side spindle has the 3 pulley bolts on the underside of the pulley. any ideas? Thanks Dave

dave
that last pully sounds like it was installed upside down. try getting an offset wrench underneath there and loosen the bolts a little.. since the taper lock is probably upside down as well , try using a gear puller ver very carefully to gett he pulley off.

Dave,

i agree with John, but you could try loosing the bolts and get a chisel and put it between the taper lock and pully and hit the chisel, moving around the pulley on each hit. sometimes that will know the taperlock loose.

c3 mower

I was able to remove the 3 bolts from the left side pulley I then used a pitman arm puller to remove the taper lock. Thanks for your help. I think the reason the left side pulley is mounted that way is because the belt that goes from the left side to the center pulley goes on first and needs to be lower than the right side. If anyoney that has one of these mowers could take a look to see how their pulleys are mounted I would be greatful. Thanks again for all the help. Dave
