Front Blade Problems

Postby AlanPCUBS » Sun Nov 05, 2006 3:20 pm

Trying to mount a 54A blade for the first time on my 49. Anyway I am having problems with the Boomerang extension on the rockshaft rubbing my steering wheel column. Now yes my column has a slite bend in it you can see when you turn the wheel. But even with the bend bowed out away from the tractor the corner of the bommerang still rubs it. Scraping the paint off. So am I missing somthing here or is it a tight fit with very little clearance and my slite bow is messing me up? TY for any help or suggestions

EEK!

I have no such problems.....not by a mile.......

Do you have Hydraulics on your cub, or are you using a hand lift?

I do have Hydaulics not manual lift. The boomerang is a aftermarket oue from TM tractor. Bit dont know if that makes a dif. or not. Thinking if I take a grinder to the corner of it and round it off a bit that it will give me the clearance i need.

Alan,

Can you take a pic of your installed boomerang, so we can see if there is anything obvious that strikes us?

The reason I asked about the hydraulics, is my '48 has the manual lift converted to hydraulics, and if one of the bolts that fits into the front implement mounts is not completely tight, the rockshaft will move around some, and the arm can hit the hood....I was thinking maybe yours was doing the same thing, in the opposite direction....

Mine is far away from the steering also. Actually the boomarang on my front rockshaft (handlift) is very close to rubbing on the hood.

Alan - there should be plenty of clearance:

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I had the same problem of rubbing at the steering box. To fix it I made a new bushing for the lifting lever down where the 12" front hanger bolt is. I think I also spaced it out with a washer also,I'll look tommorow.

Gary, I had the same problem and I believe you are right a rebuild of the bushing and associated area are in order! So another winter project, as I don't have to move snow down here. (just mow grass) :D
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

My bushing didn't seem too bad, wasn't sure anything I made would have been any better than what was there. I took the rub out with just a washer on the left side of the arm.

OK in the first pic you can clearly see how the boomerang doesnt clear the stearing arm. TY again for any feedback. Alan

Yep, mine does the same thing on the 77 cub, and appears to have done it since new. It just touches enough to rub the paint off a bit. I said the hell with it and left it alone. the tractor is almost 30 years old, and it still works fine, but then again, mine is not a shiny show tractor either.

Alan:

To my inexperienced eye.. it looks like your boomerang is canted... it is not sitting flush/flat to the rockshaft. It appears that there is almost a 1/16" of cant at the top of the boomerang. It is clearly visible in the first photo edge on and it is readily apparent as well in the second photo -- you can see how it does not set properly on the stud ?? In the 3rd pic it is even more noticeable.. or is it just me..

It also looks like the spacer block on the boomerang is not setting properly.. :?: :?:

When I got my first Lo-Boy I had the same problem. But the PO had rolled the tractor at least once. The steering support column had a nice bend in it. A different one solved the rub.
