Well, I'm finally doing my brakes, but I have a problem...

Postby Lance Leitzel » Mon Oct 23, 2006 9:52 pm

Hi everybody, hope all is well with you. I've managed to replace my brake on the right hand side, nothing too exciting, no brake pad left = no brake. But now I'm having a problem on the left hand side. The problem is that I can't get the darn tire off the left hand side. Does anybody have any magic suggestions? I have all 5 lugs out and I've not been able to move it one bit. I've soaked everything I can think of in Kroil, pounded on it. Even yelled at it a bit. I've tried putting a bit of the tractor weight back on that side, but nothing is making it move.

I'd be honored at any insight.

1) Put a hydraulic jack and cribbing between the wheels (on the floor). Use the hydraulic jack to push the bottom of the tire/rim out. Block on rims so that you don't bend the rims. Tension on rim from bottom. Rap on top of rim (blocked) with sledge.

2) Put the lugs back on, not loose but not tight. Drive the tractor a bit.

3) 4x4 elevated off the floor and across the rim. With a big sledge hit the 4x4 on one side of the rim then the other.

4) Take a 2x4, 8' or 10'. Short end of 2x4 (on edge) anchored on drawbar, pry on long end.

5) Portapower between the drawbar and rim.

6) Good luck

We had the same problem but on a much bigger tractor a Allis WD-45 would not budge the wheel off the hub. Sledge hammer would not do it almost knocking the tractor off the jack. So I told my dad to put all the bolts back in the hub to hold the wheel on but don't tighten them make them loose and drive the tractor around and he did and made a few passes around and drove on an angle on a slight grade drove back and the wheel came right off. Just be carefull and only loosen the bolts enough to let it break loose.

A little penetrating oil (Kroil?) will help.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Loose lug nuts worked on the truck.... dang aluminum wheels were stuck solid to the the hubs! Now I use dielectric grease on them.... works great.

I alos have used the smae solution as cjpenny and buzzard wing. just loosen the lugs a turn or two, and drive ti around some. don't work it too hard that way. it always did the trick for me.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
