I considered that, how much work/time does that involve?

its not that time consuming as long as the rim bolts are fair shape ,probably an hour would do it . 8)

Yep, I agree with Brian.

Do you have weights? If you do a drastic change, taking the weights off and flipping the centers, may take longer.

Plus, You may have to jack both sides up at once to switch from left to right, and vise versa, to get the correct position with your tread cleats going in the right direction.

Just be careful, Cubs are a pain to jack up in the rear safely.

I was afraid of this. I spent some time lifting the rear weights up myself by hand while my wife put the bolts through. I guess I thought I needed the workout. Anyways, it sounds like I'll be handling them again.

Clem, study the diagram above and check out your wheel positions. Maybe you won't have to remove the weights again.

Yea, check the diagram and your wheels closely. If you look at the rims, the loops are offset to one side. I was able to switch the tread width by just swapping the rims/tires from one side to the other, without removing the wheel centers or wheel weights. That should give you enough width to clear the adjusting lever. My guess yours are set in all the way, which is exactly how mine was.

Good luck,
Bill

Clem, great minds think alike. Just got done installing a fast hitch on my loboy yesterday and made the same observation.

On mine, it's an E-Z easy fix. Tractor's at the narrowst setting, but the loops are on the inside of the wheel centers. Four bolts, 1/8 turn of the tire, slide it 2" out away from the tractor, 1/8 of a turn back, and four bolts. Viola! 2" wider, and plenty of clearance for the chains if kept tight.

If you have the tractor at its narrowest setting with the loops on the outside of the wheel center, simply swap the left tire for the right, and you'll be 4" wider.

WHEN I PUT WEIGHTS ON I PUT A PIECE OF 4' OR 5' 1/2" THREADER ROD THROUGH A HOLE IN THE WEIGHT THEN STICK IN A HOLE IN THE WHEEL. THEN HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE LONG END OF THE ROD OR PROP IT ON A JACK OR SOME THING. NOW YOU NEED TO PUT A NUT ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE WHEEL SO IT DOSN'T FALL OUT TILL YOU GET THE BOLTS IN. KEEP THE HOLE AT THE TOP OF WHEEL SO THE WEIGHT HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN.
