55 gallon sprayer

Postby Clem » Wed Oct 11, 2006 11:56 am

I would like to build my own 55 gallon sprayer and would like some ideas on its construction. I have a plastic pepsi drum with a removable lid with a small unscrewable cap. I plan on mounting this on a small 2 wheel garden trailer. Does anyone have any plans or ideas out there?

Clem,

No plans, but here's what mine looks like. The boom covers a 12' swath. I use it about 1 1/2 hours/year. The valve is rope controlled.

Visit your local farm and ranch, building supply, etc., stores. There should be some end of season bargains on sprayers.

There 12 volt sprayers in the $100 to $200 range, quite good quality. May be cheaper than purchasing the parts and building a sprayer.

I have a 15 gallon 12 volt sprayer that I use to spot spray with the wand. It also has a 12 foot boom. It takes a couple of hours to spray 15 gallons of herbicide.

Just a thought.

I toyed with the idea of building a spray rig before. TSC carries a sprayer pump that will run at 1800rpm, it could be adapted to the cub pto pretty easily using a belt and pulley. It wasn't too pricey either, and was alot smaller than the 540pumps with simialar pressure and flow (due to higher rpm). You could use it with a setup similar to GW's. I thought about using a 30 gallon drump and setting it under the platform on some brackets bolted between the bullgear houseings in place of the drawbar, and use the same frame to carry the spray bars. I might build it this spring when i get done with my other projects.... maybe this will give you a few ideas.

Clem, don't know what your plans are for mountign the tank, but don't forget about the weight. 55 gallons of spary will weigh about 450 pounds, plus tank and hardware.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
