Generator question

Postby Jere » Tue Oct 03, 2006 7:23 am

My 6-volt generator is not charging on 1950 Cub and I have been reading back postings on how to fix it. I guess the first thing to do is to change the brushes in the generator. I pulled the generator off and removed the brushes. Where can I buy replacements? With an old 6-volt generator I was wondering if NAPA sells them or do I need to order somewhere off the Internet? Thanks for your help.

Take your old brushes to NAPA or if you have one in your area, an auto-electric repair shop. They should be able to find you replacement brushes. Take the info off the tag on the generator to help.
If you have no success there then I suggest calling Carter and Gruenewald or go to their online parts pages and order them. http://www.cngco.com

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

If it is a 3 brush generator - cutout instead of regulator and 4 positon light switch instead of 3 position, the Carquest / Standard Ignition part number is RX31 which is a set of 3.

Note, the number for starter brushes is RX52.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
