This was posted on the ATIS lists by Mike Sloane. It looks really interesting.

Wow! Too bad about the hole in the cylinder wall but he can probably sleeve it if everything else is good.

Hard to believe that will run again, or run for long, at least. Something had to make all that rust, and I can't believe there aren't pits and deformities enough to ruin what's left. Cool idea for implements and non machined parts, though!

Machine the valve seats, and valves. Bore the block and or sleeve and you will be suprised what will come back from the junk heap.

The main thing though is the idea. Rust can be removed!

The only thing I didn't see was if he kept it heated the whole 2 weeks and how he managed that. But boy it sure looks like it worked great. And it smells good too. :D

I'll have to do some research. I saw an article sometime back where an individual coated the item to be derusted with molasses then left it in a field for two weeks.

That sure looks like the thing for removing rust on big items.

I have heard the Molasses trick before.. and vinegar and a few others.. but seems to me.. that you would need a heck of a lot of Molasses to do the job and at 8 bucks a gallon for Molasses.. it would seem awful expensive to me. Yust me dos centavos mi amigos :!:

Personally, I will keep using TSP.. and zappem   :D
