Is this pedal small and round say 1 1/2-2 inches in diameter? If so I think that you may have a foot throatle. Is there anyway that you could take a pic and post it so that we can take a better look?

Could it be the brake lock? It holds the pedal in the depressed position, supposedly to keep the brakes applied while the tractor is not moving. Do not stake your life on that lock.

Note that jillm is in France. I believe French Cubs typically had a foot operated speed control. That is likely to be what this tractor has.

Hi Jill. Is this the pedal you're talking about? The one coming up through the floor pan, or is it the one with teeth fastened to the brake pedal?

Hi Rick

On your pic of the tractor it isnt the one that locks the brake its the one in front of it. I have followed the metal bar and it goes into the engine somewhere.

Jill - that's the foot throttle.

Jill,

On your following the route of the linkage did it lead you up the steering wheel support as shown in Rick's picture above? If so, at its' top of the vertical leg it joins function with the hand speed control linkage. From that point their combined function disappears into the "innards". :D

I imagine French and American Cubs are the same in that they have 2 brake pedals. One for the right side and another for the left side. There is a bar you can swing in place to tie them both together when driving on paved roads. When off road and pulling a heavy load 1 wheel may slip and the other do nothing. Step on the brake on the side that slips and now both wheels are pulling again.
