Putting along on my current project, a 1951, I have noticed that very many of the original welds on the tractor have most of the slag still on them. These are not repairs but the original welds on such places as the front axle tubes, touch control unit etc....
It really does bring home the fact that these were not cosmetic beauties when they loaded them on the trains. I would have loved to see one pulled out of the routine production run.
Just an observation of mine. Don't know if anyone else has noticed that before.

My 1954 had black filler covering up the big welds. At first I thought it as grease when I was sandblasting, but then realized they had dressed up the welds a bit. I removed all of it, I'd rather see the welds...
