I got my 2nd/3rd gear shifter fork welded and put back in the tractor. Works great. Thanks much to Rudi and his article "Tranny 101" and his encouragement on the phone. I was led to believe (before finding Rudi) that I'd have to split the tractor to fix the fork. The first time I heard that advice was from the Son of the Lady who sold me the tractor. I also got the same impression from reading the IT manual.
I was starting to accept the notion of sliding the gears into neutral and then closing it up and just use 1st and reverse until I had the courage and equipment to split the tractor.
Thanks again Rudi!!
