The answer can be quite involved. For a measured horizontal pulling force, the typical rubber tired tractor can develop a pull of about 85% of its own weight. But such a pull might move a trailer on level which weighs many times the horizontal force required to move it. Problems would be when the trailer is going up or down a hill. For example, near here a fellow used a 4-wheel drive pickup to tow an empty 1500 gallon tank to a pond for filling. After filling, the truck pulled the tanker well and developed some speed to climb the hill. About halfway up the hill, the weight of the tanker was more than the traction of the truck. The tires slid with the brakes locked. The rig went partially into the pond. For safety, I recommend that Cubs not tow more than 1500 pounds total weight. For the older Cubs, backing a heavy trailer down a hill will be a challenge for the brakes. The 1956 has the better brakes.
