CUB CAP

Postby LARRY BALL » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:49 pm

I RECENTLY PUT ONE FINE PAINT JOB ON THE HOOD AND FENDERS OF ELVIRA, MY 1963 STD/CUB. IN DOING SO, TO SPIFF HER UP A BIT I ALSO ADDED A NEW AIR BREATHER CAP,RADIATOR CAP,NOSE EMBLEM AND AFTERMARKET FUEL CAP. NOW AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF (CAREFULLY FILLING ) HER BEAUTIFUL NEW TANK I SEE WHERE GAS HAS SLOSHED OUT AND RUINED THE PAINT AROUND THE NECK. IS THIS TYPICAL, OR SPECIFIC TO THE AFTERMARKET FUEL CAP. I SEE A LOT OF THE TALLER BLACK CAPS. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT :?: :( :( :( :(

Larry - check out the top post in the forum. The tall caps are the vented safety caps available from Navistar at no cost to you.

Larry:

BD has is nailed.. and best of all, it is no cost. Just gotta wait a few weeks for the cap/caps to arrive.

This was one of the problems that led to the introduction of the new Vented Safety Cap and the ensuing Navistar Free Gas Cap Offer which has been available for many years. Navistar is now in the process of winding down the program and has created a new Navistar Free Gas Cap Offer - On-Line Form.

It was because of the gas leaking out from under the caps when the vents became plugged and the gaskets wore out/down that led to the fire issue. As an aside, the gas also tended to fade the paint quickly especially as the original finishes did not use a catalyzed finish (hardener).

Please.. do take advantage of the offer and get a safety cap from Navistar for each of your qualifying tractors. Diesels do not qualify. You can paint them 2150 Red, as the Black is just a stock colour. The cap also comes complete with a nice decal to place on the gas tank as a retro-fit or Service Package.

Let us know ok :!:  :!:

Must be a problem common to us Larry's cause it sure did make a stain on my nice white hood.... it was painted with Delstar and I even had waxed it!

Guess I should check to see if there is a gasket.... and check the red one too!
