Serial Number Tags

Both of these serial number tags are advertised on e-bay for Cubs. Are they both correct, or would a 51 require one over the other?

According to Steiner Tractor

the IHS289A is the early style that was in use by IH from 1939 to 1949 for the Cub, A, B, C, H, & M. ... which would be this one:

the IHS289B is the later style that was in use by IH from 1950 to the end of production for all models... which would be this one:

Jim Becker would know for sure and what the correct stamping would/should look like. As for size and font.. well, I am not sure what that would be..

My 57 Cub Lo Boy has brass pins holding the tag on ,and is totally wiped clean off info except the stamped imprint.

Merlin,

If you buy the tag how do you get your serial# and rpm speed imprinted?

Jack:

You have to stamp them yourself. Or if you order from OEM Tractor Parts you can have them stamp em for you.

Quote from catalogue:
Part# ST019 Serial No. Tag and Rivets, Stamped $39.00
Part# OEM18 Serial No. tage & Riverts Only $19.00

To ensure that we stamp the corect characters, we require that you call or fax and request a sserial tag form !!

That is why we need to know what the stamp font and size is. That way we can get a stamp set to reproduce it.

This is the first set that I have.. 1/8" Metal Stamp Set : Numbers: Image Letters: Image
They are also available in 1/4" and 5/16" inch. I think the 5/16" is closer to what we need, but I have to take a serial number plate in to check.. and I am not sure if the font is correct.

Northern Tool's Number Stamp Set Image, but it is 3/16" and I didn't see any others pop up in the search.

I measured an old tag a with a caliper and the FCUB and the serial number was 1/4". The 1800 for RPM was 3/16".

:?: I never could figure out why OEM charges 20-Bucks to stamp them. Seems a bit high to me. $20 might just buy a stamp set. :?:
Then came Bronson

Thye send them to someone else to be stamped. Then they send them to you in an envelope and charge $8 shipping and handling.

under speciality services there is a serial plate person advertised on rudi's site. the cost ifn i remember is $65 includes plate, stamping, and return postage, and it comes back looking as orginal. If you want the best and most accurate he's the guy to go with. I did. :!: Real nice guy to talk too as well.
