Andy earned his keep Saturday. We had to nibble a little in the really high stick stuff but we got it all.

Rudi - Kudzu is a ground cover crop developed for erosion control. Very common down south.

Also, once kudzu gets started in an area it is almost impossible to control. Has a tremendous growth rate and will invade small patches of forest, climbing the trees and eventually leading to their death. Was imported to control erosion, as BD stated, but probably does far more harm than good. Has become a real problem in the south. Dan

Kudzu grows like wildfire. Climbs as well as it runs horizontally.Easy to get out of control...........but no match for the cub! 8) 8) As you can tell in BR's picture...it's going up the telephone pole.

Clem - doesn't do any good to bale it - nothing will eat it except maybe some goats.

I lived in Alabama for 9 years that stuff if awful to get rid of and it has seed pods that seem to be everywhere. There are some recipies for eating that stuff along with a bunch of other uses. It will over take a edge of a woods, but doesn't do well in the woods needs lots of sun. Tough as nails to kill, I mixed 10 oz per gallon of clear out and would soak the ground and it would still come back the next year..

Kudzu was imported from Japan; I think it is Hiroshima's revenge. It is also know as arrowroot; good for thickening sauces, similar to corn starch. Buy some. It helps get rid of the stuff growing.

Originally Kudzu was brought over from Japan as a "cheap" cattle feed alternative...Just ONE PROBLEM though...none of the cattle would EAT IT :!: So it COVERS the South with no known preditors :!:

Like the Gypsy Moth (another BRILLIANT IDEA gone SOUR) Kudzu continues to chew up acres of trees, pasture and farmland faster than a Knoxville Land Developer :!:
