Need new carb
I need to buy a new carb for my cub. Can some one tell what kind/brand would be best? How much should one cost.
Thanks in advance.

Mick the only new carb you can buy is the zenith carb which is the later model carb for the cub. You can buy them from your local case dealer for around $300.00 . You can also find them on Ebay for cheaper somtimes. Your other option is to go used. There are often used carbs on Ebay zeniths and the origanal IH updraft carbs. One of our fine members found me a decent used one for my cub here just while back all I had to do was put a kit in it and now she is running well. So it just depends on what you want to spend. Note there are plenty of used carbs out there that are fixable and are alot cheaper than a new $300.00 carb.
Hope this help you out I am sure the other fellas will put there opiions and sugestions out there for you also. Sombody might even have one they can sell you. Anyway good luck Alan

Of course, that's assuming that your present carb isn't fixable.
Why do you think you need a new carb? (I think it bears repeating.)
"Tractor doesn't run right" is not a reason to buy a new carb. "Leaks gas" is not a reason to buy a new carb. "Can't figure out how to put my carb back together after I took it apart" is not a reason to buy a new carb. Most carburetors can be restored to like-new condition with a carburetor rebuild kit from your local CaseIH dealer.
"The dog ate my carburetor." Now THAT is a reason to buy a new carb Really, the only reason to buy a new carb is if it's in pieces, and I don't mean disassembled pieces. I mean broken shards of pot metal and brass Now, don't go taking the lump hammer to your carb... That'd be sacrelige.

First, to the greatest forum on the internet, and to the Cub Family. You will find that all the folks on this forum are kind, helpful and just full of Cub info and knowledge. They also happen to be the finest folks I have ever met
As already mentioned, if your carb is not physically toasted as in pieces, or worn away or say the bottom or top half is missing, then maybe I might look at replacing it with a Zenith, but before I did that, I would be shopping on eBay for an IH 3/4 Updraft.
As already mentioned, look at Lurker Carls Carb articles... go through it all, diagnose what is wrong with yours first. Have you checked the fuel system completely? Have you cleaned all the screens, replaced gaskets etc., in the Fuel Sediment Bowl Assembly and made sure that the fuel line is free from gunk? Is there an in-line fuel filter? If there is and it is not in the perfect spot where it will not impede the gravity feed of fuel from the tank, then remove it and try again...
The price of carbs is not cheap.. they are dear. A new Zenith will probably set you back about $200.00. A good used IH 3/4 might set you back almost as much. A good IH rebuild kit is about $30.00 plus some time.
Check it out... if in doubt, please take a few pics and post em.. the guys will help you out
Ok, so here is the spiel :
I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub.
Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I am always looking for YOUR favourite dealers for New and Used Parts to include here. These are intended to complement the businesses who support FarmallCub.com Website.
I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better is you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.
IF you really want to get the skinny on all things Cub, might I suggest you get a copy of Ken Updike's Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet's . Along with Guy Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide, these are two must have's in anyone's collection.
In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.
I truly hope that you enjoy your Cub and that you will be a frequent contributor to the forum. Again, to the Cub Family

Need new carb
Thanks Buzzard wing, Matt, Alan and Rudi. I new you guys would come thru and help me. I don't get on this form as much as I use to, but when I do I am very imprsed at what I see. Even for a guy like me with not a whole lot of experance working on tractors, cars ect, it gives me a whole bunch of information, and the way you guys work together is something else.
My old carb is pretty bad, the high or low speed neddle and set is worn out, the top is warped and does not fit.
I don't think I am capable of making it work. I sure hate to spend the money on a new one but I sure would like to get her up and running again (been over a year since I last got to use her and the grass is growing,
If any one has a good used original or a new one and wants to sell it let me know.
If not can you guys put me on a place to buy a new one. Its to the point that I need to just get her going right away.
PS: if any one would like my old one, let me know, maybe you can make it work or use some parts from it. The price is right (free)

Mick - try here: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/
Also, try one of our supporters like T.M. Tractor, J.P. Tractor Salvage or Ralph's for a good used one.
Also - Carter & Gruenewald can probably fix you up with a new Zenith as well.
and I'd be happy to take that old carb off of your hands. I'll pay the shipping.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks bird dog, I"ll check it out. I may have engaged my mouth before my brain on giving the old carb away. I look up a use one at JP supplies and there is a return trade in (core charge) with the old one.
I guess We have to wait and see what will happen.
Another question? Are the new carbs better built then the old originals, and is there any problems making it fit right.
Thanks again

Also how long do you think the turn around time might be?

Donny's right - Bird Dog might get ticked but the Bigdog won't! I just wanted to make sure your old IH carb didn't end up in the hands of evil-doers! Donny is a master on the old carbs and if anybody can get it tweaked up, he can. I say go for it!
