Rust on Hood

Postby kinelbor » Sun May 14, 2006 7:09 pm

I finally got started on finishing the painting on my cub. I started wirebrushing the hood. That takes the paint fine but the rust is stil there. Any tips to removing that? Thanks

after you use the wire brush, use some "Kleanz Eazy" i think it's called, or something like that, from napa, specially for paint prep... works fine, that's what i have used on a lot of things....

good luck

oven cleaner spray, wire brush then spray with water. Use a product called OSPHO on all the tractor metal and iron. It is a rust convertor. Put the OSPHO in a spritzer bottle and lightly coat the tractor. after 24 hours you can paint.

Hate to say it, but more time with the wire brush till ya get it shiny. That is a lot of surface area, so it is harder. I figured I would have the pounded out dents taken care of, so I have someone doing the hood. Hopefully they will get the rust too.

One thing that works pretty well for rust is called Rust Mort. Do a search cause there was a good post a little while back on similar products. I used it on the manifold and then painted it with header paint.... should be interesting how that turns out.

Sometimes a new cup brush comes in handy too.... Castings are easier to get the rust off...

Yep Scotty... so much more 'pleasing' to the eye than primer. I am going to have the hood, lights, platform and a couple of other stray parts done by someone else.

If I hit the lottery plans will change!
