took the tube off because I too was experiencing a bit of vapors at the oil breather cap and the tube is in fact quite clogged. to the point that I can't unclog it! tried 90 psi of air, degreaser, carb cleaner, kerosene, along with a piece of 12 gauge wire to break it loose, but no luck. it's soaking now with kerosene in it and I'll work it some more in the a.m. gonna take a torch to it as a last resort, avoiding the brass fittings and over heating the steel too of course.

Chad - soaking in a solvent or Kroil usually works well. Heat application will also work. You are on the right track. Be sure to check the fitting on the front of the engine block to make sure it is not clogged behind the fitting.

Chad,

Use the heat sparingly... it shouldn't take much to loosen the blockage considerably. Enough heat to remove paint is more than should be necessary. It's bound to reduce the smoke when the tube is clear. :D

It's the same technique used to open clogged zirks that won't accept grease.

Hey Chad...While you've got the breather tube off and soakin' NOW would be a GOOD TIME to clean the rest of your oil bath air cleaner AND clean the CAP on your oil dipstick too :!: You can soak your air cleaner, oil cup and dip stick in a big tub of KROIL or parts cleaner and then blow dry with your air compressor

The level of oil in my oilpan is high. Also, my TC unit will work fine when the tractor is first started, but then slowly lowers the mower to the ground. I haven't checked the hytran in the TC unit, but I assume it must be low? So, assuming there is a leak, how easily and cheaply could it be fixed? How would I go about it? Is it simply replacing some seals, or is there a rebuild of some kind in the future? Thanks

Findoggy - those symptoms are typical of a hydraulic pump in need of a rebuild. The fluid is getting through the pump and into your engine crankcase. The rebuild kit for the pump is cheap and the job is easy to do.

I checked the vent tube and it was clear. I’m going to change the oil tomorrow and see if there is water or any other fluids in the oil.
Can anyone tell me the part number for the oil filter?
Thanks for all the help
