Cub again.... Still not running right!

Postby tractorfan1 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 6:38 pm

The last time I posted about my 48, it was shutting off for no reason and not restarting, well with the advice I recieved from this site I got that worked out. I rebuilt the carb again  :? and I will say it hasn't died on me yet ,seem's to have good power, I harrowed my garden with it and under load it sound's great. But when just running around at mid to high idle it's still popping :x , I changed the plug's,added new plug wire's, new fuel line and new in-line filter. Still popping. So what next? Help is alway's appreciated.

I had a simular problem mine was a bad mag. the coil after a while would heat up and cause her to pop and loose power. Then when I would shut her off it would not start until it cooled down. Did it skip time? I would check that too. Hope this helps

This is a tough one. Runs fine, good power, and not missing under load.

New points and condensor. Look for damaged parts, cap, rotor. Check engine timing. An engine oscilloscope scope would help isolate the problem - eliminate an ignition problem area.

Check plug gap. Valve sticking. Valve tappet gap. Uneven compression.

Throwing out thoughts.

Eugene,

How do I go about checking to see if I have a valve sticking? The point's are wore pretty bad, could that cause popping? Thank's for the reply's!

I'd start with a good tune-up. Like Eugene says - several possibilities. If the points are worn, go ahead and replace points, condensor, cap & rotor. Pour a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas tank to help with the sticky valves.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
