Casters for a Woods 59

Postby Matt Kirsch » Wed Apr 26, 2006 8:42 am

Has anybody priced the caster wheel assemblies for a Woods 59 deck? The entire assembly that bolts to the deck, I mean. Probably $150 each.

I'm just being lazy here, as the "green" dealer down the road from me sells Woods, and could get me a price easily.

I just called the local green dealer.

$210 for both casters, the brackets, bolts, wheels, everything.

Now the real question: Is it worth it? Finding casters used is practically impossible, and when they do pop up, they bring nearly new price. I suppose I could fabricate up something using $10 8" casters from harbor freight and some scrap, but getting it all right could prove to be difficult.

If you look in the 59-C2 manual either on Rudi's site or at woodsonline.com, the part number for what I'm looking for is 29750, the complete caster wheel assembly, left and right.

yep 2 different things. Mine doesnt have the bends like yours looks to have. I did call caseih on them, 246 for the pair here.

I had them look up the item i bought, yoke and wheel (caster), couldnt find it. (They could find everything else i had bought - makes me wonder if i got away with a really good deal-the only thing they show me paying for during that time was a wheel and assy - $46???? ).

Guess ill have to go through my receipts and see if i can find it. But i know it wasnt more 50-60 for the whole thing.

I've got the ones with the bends. Took me a lot of doing last year to redrill and remount them to not interfere with the front tires. If I'd known how much they were worth, maybe I wouldn't have drilled so many holes in them :D

Oh well, guess I'll baby them now! Not sure they add much on top of the skid plates on both sides of the mower, but I do know that the stock ones were so much of a PITA to set up that I wouldn't hesitate to try something with generic ones from Harbor Freight, it couldn't be any worse ! :D

I was hoping the caster wheels in the middle would help prevent scalping. The lawn that my '67 mows is not exactly flat, and there are a couple of humps where the runners on the outside of the deck won't contact the ground before the center blade does.
