Here's a variant of the tie-down I first saw when Gary Dotson was using one. It's simple, quick to install, and completely safe for the paint job. I made several different varients before I decided on this one. The 5/8" threaded rod is simply inserted in the crank hole and a nut run on the inside hand tight.
There are a number of different kinds of tie-downs in use, but this one seems to me to be the simplest of all.
Thanks, Gary for the idea!

George,
I've been trying to come up with a way to secure the front without messing up the paint and that is the ticket! Could you tell us how long the rod is?
Thanks
Ron

I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Ron,
I welded the square nut to a 7 1/2" long threaded rod, but a 5/8x7 bolt would work nicely... maybe even better. The weld will have to be done more carefully if you use a bolt because of its' smaller size.
