Here is how I cleaned a plugged vent tube

Postby cjpenny89 » Mon Apr 10, 2006 8:36 am

Ok like the title says I had the cub hood off doing compression test so I thought I would check the crank case vent tube.

Sure enough it was barly open. I could blow with all my might and just get the tinyest bit of are to it. So I started up the air compressor and tried blowing air through it that didn't work just a little bit more air then I could get through it by mouth.

I then tried a brass wire and all I did was bend it and get little progress.

next I took out a hand held toruch and heated the vert tub up tapping it on a wood block all around after it was steaming and you could smell the oil inside I went to the air compressor and hit the air and it blew the crude out like a gun shot.
I then let it cool and blew on it and it was amassing.
so next time you have a plugged vent tube heat it up and use air!

Chad, be sure to check the opening at the fitting to the crankcase. If it is plugged, and it often is, cleaning the tube doesn't help much.

Hey Chad...That's a GREAT "HOW TO TIP" for all Cub Owners! I'm sure that my friend Rudi will include your super successful instructions in his "How To Do It" section!

Thanks Big Dog I think it was un-plugged in the block I stuck a 18ga wire in there 3 or 4 inches maybe and I assumed it is open.
I think I will loosen up the fitting at the air cleaner and see if it is pushing air to it!
Thanks for the tip.

You have to see if you can force air back through the tube. The vacume of th air cleaner sucks the fumes from the crankcase.
