I'll go out on a limb and guess that the tractor has probably been repainted sometime in it's life. At least the decals are not original.

I'm curious, why do you say the decals are not original?

They are worn out and parts are missing, but they match the decals in the original owner's manual that came with the tractor (dated 5-23-47). Is there something I'm not seeing?

The large decal on the side of your hood appears to read "McCormick Farmall Cub" The part that says "McCormick" would have said "McCormick-Deering" until some time in 1949.

Also, the very early tractors said "McCormick-Deering Farmall" with the name "Cub" in a circle on a separate decal. That change was very early and the exact serial number when it reached the factory is not known. Your tractor could have been either way from what we currently know.

I just ordered a decal set from YESTERDAYS TRACTORS PARTS ,this was the description " IH Decal Set - For Cub (1945-1954) 'McCormick Farmall Cub'. Set of 11 self adhesive decals. Printed on Vinyl. (Part No: IHCCUB-Late)" Mine is a 1947 ser# 9778. Is this wrong?

Yes, it is wrong. Their R2565 set, which has no picture on their web page, is probably closer. Just from their product descriptions you can see things are a bit hosed up. Example, first production Cubs built in '47 and they have a listing for '39-'45.

Look at the picutures with the serial number list on the ATIS Cub FAQ.

This is Barney '48, wearing the decals that would be most like the originals, except for the earliest '47s.

Your tractor appears in the picture to have the very early fine screen grille. TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT! :D

Jim, thanks for the information, I am going to cancel / change my order right now. I thought that looked wrong about the 39 to 45 cub. I know cub was first made in 47. I wasn't thinking Again.

Doug,

Wow, at first I thought I was seeing double  I almost even went down to the garage and made sure mine was still there. :D The deck looks just like mine does, where mine is a 54 and you have a muffler and I only have a straight pipe.

Welcome to the forum, hope to see you a lot more.

Remind me when I get closer to finishing up the 50 and I will send you one of em.
