Gasket for the Regulator

Postby Kirk » Mon Apr 03, 2006 8:10 am

Mornin' Yall,

As I'm restoring my '49, I'm needing a gasket for my 6 volt regulator. I did a "search", but didn't find anything. Are gaskets available for the reg :?: Or do I just need to make one  :?:

Mucho thx
Kirk

I don't want to sound rude but, where are you placing your regulator that you need a gasket?

Mark,

Not rude at all. I wasn't very clear  . It's the regulator cap that I need a gasket for.

Kirk: I never had to replace the regulator cover gasket before but I think I would try NAPA 1st. Otherwise, if you have a heavy duty rebuilder close by, try them. Being in Grand Rapids, I have several sources if I needed to find one. Let me know, I can probably scrounge one up off of an old one I have here in the garage. Good reason to throw the regulator out then.

I just stick the cap back on without changing the gasket.

That's going to be one tough little gasket to construct/make. I would use a bit of gasket maker in a tube.

Eugene, I thought about not using one if I couldn't find a replacement......as my original has pretty much disingrated. Yep, making one like the original would be unlikely.

Mark, Thanks much for your offer and advice. AND, I didn't even think about looking in the parts manual  DUH :!: :!: I'll try that route also.

It's not that I just have to have one......I just thought I'd replace it if available.

Thanks for your comments and assistance guys

You can always use some (horror of horrors) silicone gasket maker on it. need to put something under it to keep dust out of the contact points.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
