'57 Cub Hood help

Postby Psycho » Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:10 pm

Can anyone with a '57 cub post a picture of the right side hood, just behind the emblem? Mine is dented in, and I want to see how straight it's supposed to be. I'll try to post a pic.

Psycho, I don't have a 1957 Cub, but I do have ten others from 1948 to 1975, and I can tell you that your's is sure enough dented. All that I have and all that I have seen have a pretty much straight line from the front back to the tank curvature. I have seen a few that do pull in a little at the seam weld of the tank/hood juncture. You may try clamping something like a one inch angle iron along the bottom ridge for reference and go to gently working the metal. Use Bondo only for surface imperfections and not for hiding anything much over 1/16 th inch deep. You can do wonders if you take your time with it. Be sure to take care of those side plate emblems as they are hard to come by and are very expensive. I think I had to give $160 for a set. Bill

Bill & Don,
Very helpful. Looks like more hammer & dolly work for me. Are the '57 emblems stainless, or chrome plated. I'd like to strip mine and plolish if possible. Looks great Don. Is that yours?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Psycho:
Your emblems are stainless steel. You can strip the emblems.
I forget but somewhere on this forum tells how to get the emblems off the hood. If you don't use caution on removing of emblems you will bend the emblems or break the pins off the back of the emblems.
