She's Alive!!!!!!!

Postby Psycho » Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:36 am

I was finally able to get the old girl running yesterday  First time since I've owned her (3 yrs?). Don't know how many years she sat before that. Thank you Kroil and seafoam!! (Country, forward payment to my e-mail 8) ) Need to get new battery today. Previous owner had battery hooked up backwards, and when I connected it correctly, it sparked as if there was a draw on it. Ignition was off, as were the lights. Any ideas where to start looking for the draw? Could that have messed up the generator? Any help appreciated.

Bob

Psycho,

Congrats on getting her running.

You probably did not damage the Gen.

If it sparked and the switch and lights were off then I would start looking for a short to ground, frayed wires etc. I always start at the battery (negative terminal on my system goes to the starter so that is the side I start with) and work through the system (you can also check the ground connections making sure that they are clean and tight along the way it is a habit that I have gotten into) and ending at the positive terminal which in my case is considered the ground.

Just my 2 cents.

:D Cool Psycho :{_}:

OOOOOOOOOh wahat a feeling :!: :!: :!:

Since its been sitting so long I would drain and flush the trans. and change all the fluids. Personally for what little it costs I change mine every year at the end or spring.

Psycho, if your cub has an altennator rather than a generator that spark would be resaonble. if ti is a generator, then as BD sais, I would look for a short, possibly bare battery cael that you moved around reconecting the battery

Hey John *.?-!.* cub owner I am flattered that my explanation could have been confused with a BD answer.

I just wish I knew 1/10th of what BD has forgotten.

Psycho, I have seen several Cubs that have a bare battery cable where the clutch pedal, shoe, boot, bare foot or whatever rubs the insulation off. Many are missing the little thin metal cable protector in that location. Just a thought. Bill
