Noticed in a few past posts the condition of some of the large T/C screens. Ours was recently rebuilt and didn't have any varnish coating on it at all. Very little debris considering that the main piston "O" ring was failing because of a big hole on the piston boot. 99% of the worn "O" ring bits and pieces were in the bottom of the T/C block. THe screen had never been replaced on the family owned since new 49. Fluid was probably replaced 4 or 5 times in its lifetime due to removing hydraulic lines for various reasons. It did have a diet of hytran during its lifetime. Leads me to think that these failed screens were from units that were not kept full and overheated. If we hadn't bought a new screen, the old one was just fine.

That is interesting.... I had hope that mine would be intact, so when I ordered the parts for the rebuild I didn't order the screen. It was false hope!
The new ones have a 'chicken wire' like reinforcement inside the brass (bronze) that looks like it would handle the chore a bit better than the old ones.
Guess if it is in good shape you can use it, but you may want to handle it very carefully.
