I love my 23A disks

Postby cowboy » Sun Mar 19, 2006 9:42 pm

:{_}: These are great disks :!: I got them out of the truck today and put back together. Guys thanks for telling me I could get them in the back of the truck :!:

I decided to take them out in the field to check them out. I did not plow I did this just pulling them around. Its great took them across the yard without hurting it :!: Pull the trip and let the gangs angle as just before they get to full extension it starts putting a load on the tractor the govener kicks in and away I go :!: :{_}: I stop back up and it resets the disk to no angle so I can go where I want and do not want to hurt the grass turn around and trip it agin giddy up and go agin :!: At full extension with wheel weights its all I can do to pull in in loose soil without spinning :!: :!:

Image

Even with out any weight I did a good job cutting up the grass. So much so I went and made a lockout for the front blade :!: Here I worked up the grass so I can push off that knob and even out the hill. I did get the topsoil pushed off and to the side tonite (not in the picture) I need to loosen it agin with the disk so I can push it put the clay where I want it then cover it with the topsoil pile.

You can see one of Rick's basket/mirror drink holder :!: Don't leave home without it :!:

Looks good Cowboy, come on down and you can play around my house and fix my garden spot!!
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Cowboy: How many passes did you have to make over the grass to get the soil cut up that loose? Man! Makes me want to hurry up and fix my set of disks and go play! Uhhhh, I mean go work!

Hi Joey

That nice stuff is a sandy loam from the creek. I had a fire there two years ago and not much was growing there and it only tood three passes.
The stuff going up the hill had thick grass growing on clay soil and I had six passes on it at that time as you can see it didn't break up much. It works much better if you plow it first like one is supposed to. But I was just playing around. and I wanted to loosen it up enough to push it with the blade.

Cow boy they work fine don't they. Mine is all rust but it works like a charm except it bounces around on all the rockes in the new garden site.

Hi Bill :D

Boy did I have fun. I had no  that it would work that well :!: I think that becuse it is adjustable angle and you can set the pull for differnt soils it has a much more agressive cut than a fixed disk :?:

You do in Missouri clay, believe me. One of my bigger mistakes was selling my 23A to get one of the smaller lift types. They don't work near as well.

:D Thanks John

Hey Country how ya doin' I am going to go out and play some more today. I am taking the fence down so I can get that knob pushed down and flattened out. It was so rough and steep I was worried that I would flip the tractor mowing it. Its great that I am finally getting enough equ to do stuff. Now I need more cubs so I don't have to keep changing my tooling :!:

Nice job Billy! I've got a 23A that needs a little work ( need to replace two broken discs and weld part of the frame). Never used one before but looks to be almost as much fun as plowing. Any ideas of where i can get replacement discs?-Rubee

Hi Rubee

I do not know where to get any replacement disks. Mabe TSC or that tractor dealer in Birch Run. Bill (beaconlight) replaced his when he sees this he'll let you know.

Most any farm supply place will hav ethem, the problem is that if yours are worn much they will be quite a bit bigger. You mihgt check around at some of the slavage yards for used ones.
