Inside me engine

Postby John(videodoc) » Wed Mar 08, 2006 7:14 pm

Well i talked to the PO, after i delivered the engine to CaseIH, he told me it was overhauled prior to him getting it, and he hardly used it over the past 20 yrs (yeah right i was thinking). Any way, heres the pictures. CaseIH states that what he said appears to be true, very clean engine, excluding the top of one piston. anyway new rings and bearings, a good washing and its back together.

My 51 Cub engine is apart also, I find it intresting that IH/Farmall/Macormick/Deering painted the inside of the engine as well....... Wonder why they did that??????

I believe you will find that is a sealer rather than a paint, and it is/was found on about all castings that were intended to contain a liquid of some type, and maybe some that were not.

Probably to prevent RUST, or corrosion from occuring on the interior of the cast iron.

Wish the internal water jacket of my Economy Hit & Miss engine had been so thoughtfully treated...MAYBE runnin' a gallon or two of KROIL in it might flush out the RUST! :?

stopped in to see my baby(awwww  :P ) this morning, they had it out of the bath, and freshly lubed and a coating of a "white" grease all over" as they were putting her back together and getting her clothes on. 8)
