Found another one!!

Postby SassafrasSprings » Fri Mar 03, 2006 2:07 am

Well we did it again, Kirk, we are going to outnumber you on Cubs now.  Found one today and put a deposit to hold it till our tax refund comes in. :D It's a 58 model. Good sheet metal, all good emblems, seat decent, all 3 lights, part of battery box, toolbox, has rockshaft and rod, drawbar but no brackets, plow with another drawbar attached, think it had the brackets on it, blade, front mount I think, and a disk, also getting 1 or maybe 2 sets of rear wheel weights, there's one set on it and he thinks he's got another set.
Now the bad, no grill, engine stuck, might have a busted gear in one of the final drives. Was said to be running when the gear problem started. Parked and left until the guy we are getting it from bought it.
We are getting it for 800. It looks pretty good, both back tires are fair, both hold air and have some tread left, will need new fronts, they are shot. Didn't see any welds or cracks anywhere. We will try to get it running, but if we can't will part it out.
Did we do ok? :?:

well when you figure, (depending on which disc) a disc just went for 300 on ebay, most snow blades start out at $250, and one set of rear weights is around $75-100, looks to me you got the tractor for free :D 8)

Way to go John

Barbara,

I am glad to see your posts on the forum and hope to meet you and your husband one day. It sounds like you have come down with a case of Cub fever. I had it pretty bad last year, having contracted it from my neighbor to the south, Bill Blansett of Mountain View. I live about 100 miles east of you in Calico Rock, and had been satisfied for 15 years with one old tired 49 cub with a belly mower. The tractor leaked from every orifice but kept going and mowing like the Energizer bunny. Bill and I were just going to fix it up a little, and it turned into a complete restoration. About that time the fever took hold, and I ended up with five more cubs last year alone. Good luck with your acquisitions. We had better be careful and hope that Bigdog does not figure out how fertile Arkansas seems to be for Cubs.

I'm thinking Big Dog, might be slipping a little bit, it took almost 9 minutes to reply to that comment.

videodoc, not sure what disk it is, looked big and heavy to me. :D We'll get pictures when we get it home, hopefully next week. That's kind of what we were thinking, we bought all the stuff and got the cub for free! :P

John, we sure were bit hard by the cub bug. We've went from none to 4 in just over a month. :D :D Hope to get to meet you someday!

We'll have to cloak all the cubs with our JD! It's big enough that it should at least confuse Bigdog a little!  It weighs more than all the cubs combined so should work for a while, at least til we get more cubs. :o :o

Barbara:
FWW, I had an instance a while back where the tranny[apparently] locked up, then after a while would let go.
What I found was that the upper braring oin the final drive had become so rusty that it would not turn on occasion. Not sure why it did it selectively, but new bearings solved the problem.
Good Luck!
One of the few advantages of growing older is that I finally realized that I haven't made ALL the stupid mistakes! Yet!

Jim that's where the goats come in!  We are a farm so get lots of deductions. :? Of course we spend far more but it's still nice to get some back at the end of the year!

Larry, thanks, I'll keep that in mind once we get it home and start to see what all is wrong.

That looks like the disc, from what I can remember. It was 2 rows of discs, one was pretty worn around the edges, the back row I think. It was sitting in a shed so it was kind of dark.

Wish the IRS would hurry up! I want to get it home!!

Barb,

I just read your other post which referred me to this one. I've been busy doing some landscaping around the house AND putting Lil Red back together. So I missed this post all together.

You've bought another Cub :P :P :P

Sounds like a deal to me.....particularly with all the implements. I have some parts if your needing any.....and a couple of final drives laying around with good gears. But the way you're going....you'll bee in the "parts" business" soon, also

Oh yeah...you're right: Sellers is the one in Siloam Spgs. The one in Lincoln is just Lincoln Tractor, isn't it. I did just get a shocker though when I bought a couple of rear housing oil seals for $10 bucks a piece from them    . But they are cheaper on many parts as compared to Williams.

I'm going to have to get over there to see this new Cub when you bring him/her home. If yall need some help hauling it or even working on them let me know. I'll be glad to help if I can.
Kirk
