Looks like a 172 runner planter. Not sure on the hopper, but i think it's a richmond corn hopper. Looks like you have the row marker attachment too

Cub Hut, yours looks like a 174 or 174A. John, yours probably is too, but it would have been a lot easier to tell if you had taken about 3 steps to the left before snapping the picture.

As far as I know, the difference was the change from rigid ground unit to hinged type. There was a conversion package to change rigid to hinged. Go to this page then look at pages 3, 4 and 5.

Jim

The farmer I got mine off of said he had changed something on the planter years ago but couldn't remember what. He did say it was a kit from I H .
So my question is if it was a 172 too start with and you change it with the factory kit, it would still be a 172--converted.?
Which ever I'm going too keep it. Thanks for pointing the difference out. DAVE

Interesting question, one of those "if a tree falls in the woods. . ." things. I guess you can call it either one you want.

Any chance the former owner told you what year he bought it?

That year agrees with it being a 172 that was converted. The 174 style didn't come out until like 1950.

videodoc: I have what I believe to be an incomplete 172 planter. I might be able to supply parts if you can provide # of missing items. Dan

i have printed the manual from RUDI's manual (Cheers Rudi 8) ) They are currenlty looking about to see if they can find em all. Doesnt look good though. Time will tell. I will let you know what i need, as i heard on this site though, you get better restored items from parting out almost complete units, and thats what its about. :D john
