A different radiator issue

by the time I get a new core and sweat the old tank and install on new core its was $350 to the customer, and that was a little less than a year ago, the way costs go up on everything these days it may be more now ?? the new core is made in RI USA

And you need to have a radiator shop nearby and they are becoming extinct. The local one closed a couple of years ago.

Several yeas ago I was told by a shop owner/operator that the reason that so many have gone out of business is the environmental rules/governmental compliance have made it too costly to continue to stay in business. JMHO, that's the reason that so much of this type manufacturing has moved overseas. They don't have to do things like it's done in the USA so it costs less. Stan

OK, here's the windup. The problems with this radiator are as follows:

The neck that connects to the head is slightly higher on the tank than it should be but with some effort you can still get the hose on.

The filler neck is rotated counter-clockwise maybe a 1/2 to 5/8" meaning the cap doesn't center front to back.

The bottom plate is square so the front corners protrude enough to interfere with installing the grille so the front corners need to be nicked back.

The overflow tube is the real issue - It's mounted too high on the neck, it's too big (5/16") and it's too long.

Here are my remedies:

I cut the overflow tube down by about a 1/2" and then used a thinwall rubber hose for the drain. That gave it clearance at the hood opening. I used a Dremel to grind back the tabs on the radiator cap until I could turn it enough for it to line up. Only leaves about 1/8" of the tabs but it fits and holds. I also used the Dremel to cut down the skirt of the cap about 1/8" all the way around so it cleared the overflow. Needless to say Radiators-R-Us is not the radiator for me in the future but at least I was able to save it and use it.

Is it possible to solder the old filler neck to the new radiator? Or is the whole radiator too high.
