Oil pan question

Postby Leewebb7 » Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:47 am

According to my serial number I have a 1951 cub...but it looks like someone replaced the oil pan with the later reinforced style. It's missing three oil pan bolts in the front, would this mean I need the slightly longer pan bolts??

I would assume the best thing to do is to pull one of the remaining bolts and measure it to get the correct length. As a general rule, bolt engagement should be one and a half times its diameter if you're concerned with making sure the bolts are long enough.

16 each 5/16-18 x 3/4 hex head cap screws and lock washers, per the Parts Catalog.

Hi,
The Cub parts manual says they changed to the oil pan with reinforcements at engine serial number 125371, which was made during 1951.
Below is the page with the oil pan info.

The engine serial numbers are not the same as the tractor serial numbers in 1951, but Raymond Durban's database shows engine number 125371 was made in early 1951.
Below is a page from the 1950 Cub owner's manual showing where the engine serial number is, if you don't know the number. It is stamped in the engine block, you may need to clean the area, and use a light to see it.

The tractor serial numbers for 1951 are 121454 - 144454, it says at the top of the page, at Cub Info.
