Farmall Cub Seed Drive Seal

Postby Troy Boy » Thu Jun 08, 2023 8:02 pm

I have a Farmall Cub Tractor approximately a 1955. I am changing the oil seal on the inside right hand final drive. The tractor is equipped with a seed drive for a planter. When I removed the seal retainer, I found out there is a double seal. The outside one is a felt seal and the inside one is a regular oil seal. My parts manual only shows one number 382220R91 for the seal. I ordered a new seal and when it came it is only the regular oil seal and is approximately 3/8" wide. The original combination seal was approximately 3/4" wide. I assume the felt seal was to protect the oil seal from the dirt. Can anyone tell me if the manufacturer has eliminated the felt seal and the oil seal is the only one now used? I know the seals were the original from the factory and have never been changed.

Seems to me there was only the regular seal, plus the o-ring that was just under the big nut.

Hi,
Below is a listing for the seal at TM Tractor Parts, it says it is a Case IH part. You can look at the pictures.

Thanks for the information. When I was looking for the replacement seals, I noticed some of the seals are single lip and others are double lip seals. Does it make a difference in the type of seal?

I would use the double lip seal if they are available for there, it probably keeps out more dirt than the single lip seal, if the outer lip is facing out.
