Cub 193 with Canadian Ace bottom

Postby Stevetractor » Sat Nov 19, 2022 9:29 am

Hello all. Noticed something interesting the other day putting things away for winter. I have a spare 193 plow. In the northeast of Canada and the US, the Ace bottom was popular for stone littered soils. Other manufacturers refer to them as a Scotch bottom. Please see the attached pictures of what’s remaining of the factory decals. Made in Canada (these were made at Hamilton works) in small letters is visible at the top edge of the moldboard and below this in larger print is ACE 107. It looks as though 1 or 2 more number or letter outlines are left. I can’t seem to find a parts book that show the ACE bottom and am wondering if this is an assembly number for the complete ACE bottom. Maybe someone has an original that the numbers are still visible? Thanks for your assistance in advance. Going to paint the one I use this winter and would love to replicate the original markings.

That was a Canadian bottom and wasn't sold in the US. Thus, the US catalogs don't list it for either new sales or parts. The only ACE reference I have is to an ACE 54 7-inch. That is from 1962 and obviously different than what you have.

The width of cut in the plow pictured above looks like not more than 7 inches.

Far from the 12 inchers I am used to seeing here!

Would be interesting to see it in action

It cuts a 12” furrow. Same as other cub plows. The smaller share helps it pull in better and work around stones easier.

Nice looking soil in your post in the old thread. Is all of Nova Scotia like that, or are there places where bedrock is exposed?

Our soil in the province is quite variable. This soil is on top of slate ledge. In places, it’s very deep, others you can find ledge at, or very close to the surface. The large agricultural area near me, the Annapolis Valley, is mostly clay, clay loam, and sandy silt. Again very variable over relatively small distance due to the glacier action of the last ice age.
