Curb flutter

Postby Jackman » Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:51 am

Anyone know what causes carb flutter? Hard to describe flutter but its a lack of a nice smooth running engine, my cub used to run smooth as silk but some how now its got a flutter that I cant seem to tune it out. Any suggestions? Cub in question is a 57 Loboy I've owned for over 30 years it has a electronic ignition, aftermarket carb ,the valves are adjusted, the governor is clean free and adjusted correctly , I do suspect the carb as it is aftermarket probably Chinese made, however my old leaky IH carb had the same issue .

I'm not sure what you mean by flutter. Is it like a miss?

Not a miss , it’s probably a carb issue not ignition or timing, when running it puffs or flutters lightly and then continues running. I’ll post a video of what I speak of after work today.

Is this one of the early, assembled in the USA aftermarket carbs or the current crop of Chinese carbs?

I've suspected fuel quality , or moisture from condensation inside the tank.
Erratic once in a while putt or lowering briefly speed as it digests an impurity or impurities.
Keeping tank topped off with rec fuel and using seafoam has eliminated most occurrences.

I also run carbs dry by shutting the fuel off when parking for any long amount of time.

Fuel, on the right track :hattip: I'm running a temporary tank and a new petcock found out I have very little flow at the petcock so got to figure that out first , I don't think that is the whole issue.

I don't own an iphone but heard you can resize it in the edit photos app as easy as pie.

Immediately after selecting the photo(don’t leave the picture page), look at bottom of screen. Click on ‘Actual Size’ and choose ‘small’. That’s it. At least on my phone anyway. It’s not a new feature, so it should be there
