French Super Cub question(s)

Postby CapeCodCubs » Sat Feb 05, 2022 10:26 pm

Hi,
Are the French Super Cubs part of the serial number data base? I noticed Cubs listed for export but with the Super Cubs being manufactured overseas (were they?) would they have had their own serial number series. Where were they made and is there a number how many? Did they get exported to other countries such as Spain? There seem to be Cubs all over the world. Kind of interesting to me.

Thanks for any info on my questions and any thoughts you may share

French Cubs were made in Saint Dizier, France. The French Cub was made from 1955 to 1957 and the Super Cub was made from 1958 to 1962. I am not sure of the serial number range or how many were made, but I would guess they would have a separate serial number from the American Cub.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

US built Cubs were exported to multiple parts of the world. Their serial numbers were in sequence with domestic tractors. Cubs built in France had their own sequence of serial numbers. Look at Mike Schmudlach's comments in this thread for details.

That's great, thanks for the replies. I was mostly interested in finding out if they had their own serial number sets from the US range. Would be nice to know exactly how many were made in France. Would like to know the grand total of all Cubs built, if these French Cubs and Super Cubs would be included in the overall tally of Cubs built.

Thanks again!

Hi,
Below are papers I found online in the past, showing the serial numbers of the French Cubs and Super Cubs.
The numbers are on the 2nd page below.
The 1st page is there to show the writing on the front of it, the IH emblem and other writing.
The 2nd page looks like the back of the page, or another similar page. You can see the IH through the page.
You people that can read French can see what the French words say. :)

You can see some more of Mike's comments in this thread. If you want more beyond that, search the site for any posts with the word "french" posted by Mike Schmudlach.
