sickle bar mower

Postby tomstractor » Fri Aug 13, 2021 7:06 am

I am replacing the wood shaft on my sickle mower and need to know what color to paint it. The rest of the mower is blue and I have seen the bar painted white or blue. Not a show mower but would like it right. Thanks

Just leave it natural wood!

When the pitman breaks, you'll be happy you did not waste your time painting it as you install a fresh one!

The nos I have is unpainted. If you want to go old school, they were ochre color.

I used just linseed oil on mine, kept it good looking and gave it a bit of protection

I believe they were cream until about '56 when they changed to white. Ochre had been used on previous pitmans, but I believe was phased out before the Cub mower was built.
