Hi,
Yes, it looks like the original style generator, and voltage regulator in your picture, but I can't read the gen model number in the picture.

The gen has probably been repainted, they aren't painted that good originally, that I have seen.

The voltage regulator originally faces 1/2 turn around, so the 3 posts are under the hood, out of the rain. You would need to disconnect the wires from the reg to turn it around.
That would be a good time to clean it's connections, sand them with fine sandpaper, and wipe off all sanding with a clean rag.
Disconnect the battery ground cable before removing wires from the reg, to prevent shorting.

The coil has some info on it, printed on white words, it looks like.

Below is the page before the page I posted on page 1 of this post, from the 1955 Cub operator's manual, showing the electrical system, and wiring. The numbers are explained on the page in my other post.
The pic at the upper right shows the reg.
The middle pic shows the wiring routing, if he has any interest in making it more original. :)

Don't forget, when you get your 6v battery, these are normally Positive (+) Ground. Connect the + side of the battery to the frame and the negative (-) side goes to the starter. The generator might need to be polarized. Here is the procedure.

6v systems have a higher current draw than 12v, and are quite fussy about GOOD connections. Often a 12v battery is used because of dirty/corroded terminals or bad (corroded or too small gauge) battery cables. Also, these tractors use the tractor chassis for grounding of electrical components (starter, voltage regulator, lights, etc), so anywhere those components attach to the tractor, it is necessary to have bright shiny metal...no rust or paint.

Welcome and good luck with your cub...have fun!! :hattip:
