Cub story

Postby Paul_NJ » Fri Dec 30, 2005 7:35 pm

Probably many of you have already seen this story on ATIS, but I thought it worth posting just in case anyone has not. Sounds quite a bit like one of Pat's stories.

A little bit of an exageration on the 25 HP part though.

If he was dumb enough to go for 25 HP I wonder what other bridges they sold the guy?

Confusion also about the width of the blade. Maybe it's the model of tractor that is in error?

Thinking about it, a city guy who never worked for a living. An insurance guy and poet he didn't do too bad even if he has the tractor wrong.

Thanks Paul, makes me glad I don't have to push snow in the
winter time :D
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Geez, folks....

I thought it was a nice story.

Sounds like me when I did my first plowing this month.

Of course, i didn't need a charger, and I don't have 25 hp, but.......

Unfortunately, I think we all missed the point. We all, myself included, tend to do that sometimes. It was a nice, well written story. A tribute if you will, to a piece of old iron. We tend to obliterate the point of the story because we see the errors in details and then discredit the author .
It is a nice story. Full of incorrect detail, but a nice story nonetheless.

I tend to agree with Bigdog. It is a nicely written article, defintly worth reading. It does have a incorrect detail or 2, but maybe he is just a uneducated cub owner. Considering the work these tractors are capable of, it would be easy to over guess the HP. They will outwork most 20HP tractors of today before they even get warmed up.

So I'd just over look the incorrect stuff and enjoy the article as it is.

Thanks, Big Dog...I was about to enter the new year out of sorts. Nice story, details are close enough to make the point. As you say, the old iron did it's part so the auther could as well. I know a little bit more about my cub but I can't write as he does either :)

George is likely on the right track. To a lot of old-timers, any small Farmall is a Cub. The guy may have a Super A or 140 etc. 25 hp is a stretch for one of them too, but that may be what the guy that sold it to him claimed.
