Light Switch Nut Size

Postby Like-em-all » Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:23 pm

Does anyone know the size of the thin nut that holds the light switch onto the dash/tank support? I need one for a 48' Cub with the original 4-position light switch. The parts book gives the tooth washer size as 11/16", but only gives the part number, 1882012 for the nut.

Thanks, Bill

Double check your threaded stud to see if it’s 5/8” or 11/16”. If 5/8”, go to McMaster-Carr’s website and look for “panel nuts”. They have sizes that go up to 5/8”.
Or, if you have a well-stocked hardware store nearby, take it in and see if they have something that works. If it’s not exact it won’t matter being behind the dash.

Hi,
Below are pics of the switch, nut, and washer from TM Tractor, if you need to see them.

The top pics show the thickness some.

The nut and washer go on the front of the dash, under the knob, so they have to be thin.
A lock washer goes on the knob screw.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I measured the threaded part and it kept coming up 0.687" or 11/16" dia and 27 threads per inch (thread gauge). So 11/16x27 is the nut required. Gotta be the oddest fastener on the Cub. So far my search has turned up none. I tried to make it 5/8", of which there are tons available but just couldn't do it.

Lowes, Home depot or if you have a good old fashioned hardware store. Look for lamp repair parts. 2nd Auto parts store.
