Happy Anniversary Riley!

Postby Scott » Sun Dec 25, 2005 1:17 am

Flashback- It is October Of 2004. Fall Show week at my school. Needing something shinny to be in the show my teacher brings in his Farmall Cub show tractor. At the time I had no idea what is was but something about it kept drawing my attention. I loved everything about it. The gorgeous red color of the paint. The wonderful contrast of the red tractor and the blue implement, which I later found out was a Cub 189 two-way plow. I just fell in love with it. When I got home I told my father about the little red tractor and how much I liked it. He got to thinking..............

two months later.....

The date is December 25, 2004; Christmas morning. It was great. I had gotten everything I had wanted and then some. After everyone was done unwrapping their presents my father said that there was one more he forgot to put under the tree. He came out with a rectangular wrapped box. When I opened it it had a tractor muffler and a set of spark plugs.
I said, “Why did you get me a muffler and spark plugs for the Crawler?”
He said, “ No dummy there not for my tractor there for YOUR tractor.”

Then it all clicked in my mind. I ran out side and saw a little Farmall Cub sitting next to the barn waiting for her new owner to see her. After looking her over I hopped on and drove her back to the house where my sister was out there with the camera waiting. It was the greatest day ever.

December 24, 2005

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of me receiving my 1948 Cub, Now Called Riley. A lot has changed since then and I have learned some much about these small little addicting tractors. Speaking of addicting there are now three cubs in the family. Riley a ‘48, The New one a ‘52, and the Lo-Boy a ‘63. I do not know what I would do without my tractors. Last Christmas when my little cousins where he they got to drive Riley when I had first gotten her. Now I cant wait for them to see her now.

Thank you all for giving me the information that I needed to know.
Thank You for taking the time to read my little story.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

Looks very good, Scotty. Fully dresssed (front and rear weights) and looks like you have added hydraulics. A nice Cub. Dan

Very nice Cub and a super story!
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Scotty:

Well Done Image. It is so nice to see young people appreciating something built so many years before they were, as well as the desire and pride in bringing it back to life and it's former glory. Wonderful story :!:

You make us all proud Scotty, proud to know you, proud to have you as a member of our forum. I just know you are goinna have as much fun or more restoring Manny.

Nice to see the photos too.... My nephew asked why you needed 3 Cubs and I couldn't even answer why I needed two.

Great job on Riley and Manny should be a good project too. Still have to get up that way to see the red Cub.

Nice work Scotty!

Hope you had a great Christmas (sounds like you did)! Let's see, at this rate you should have about a dozen Cubs by the time you're 20, right?
