Hydrauics

Postby Fieldstone farm » Sun Oct 11, 2020 9:16 am

So I have had a cub for 3years now and use it for cultivating in the garden. Every winter I have labored on restoration. Starting with the electrical I switched over to 12v system. Now I'm working on the Hydraulics. The problem I was having is that I would put fluid in it all the time mean while the oil Was overflowing all the time saying that hydraulics where leaking into the engine through the pump. Plus they were not working quite normal. So time for an overhaul on the hydraulic system. I broke the system down And am waiting for my o-ring and seal kits to arrive. There is something funny though I looked at a video on how to break the touch control unit down mine seems different though less parts is there some difference in the systems?

yes, there is and early and late version of the touch control, they do use some parts that are different, the late style uses a hex fill plug and the early a square pipe plug, also the casting # is different so the rebuild kit is different, order parts by the casting code

Here are 2 different HOW TO posts, depending on which Touch Control Block you have...

The older version:

And the newer version:

There is also one on rebuilding the pump:

The little piece of rubber (pin seal?) on my pump when I opened it up it was not there though the pump was previously opened by someone else they may have lost it. In the rebuild kit I got one but I can not figure out how to put it in.

We certainly owe thanks to the authors!! As many times, now, as I have done the rebuilds, I ALWAYS print out a copy of the appropriate HOW TO and have it by my side, just to keep me out of trouble!

Hi,
The part number of the Touch Control block is usually on the left side of the block. 351981R1, 360719R1, etc.
You didn't say the year of your Cub in your info, or the part number of your Touch Control.

I noticed in the 1st link Dale posted above, by joey j, the first part number he gives, the 351686R1, is not a Touch Control part number, it is the part number of the clutch housing.

In the 2nd link, the rebuild for the 360719R1 Touch Control, in the last pic of the post, it shows he has a pipe and elbow on the filler opening, I don't think that is a good idea to put on.
The unit is designed to have an air space in the top of it. The fluid is to be filled to the bottom of the filler plug hole, with the arms in the rear or down position. The fluid rises in the unit as the arms go to the rear position.
The pipe and elbow raise the fluid level too high. You couldn't see if it is full until fluid is to the top of the elbow. My opinion.

They have said on here before that not all Touch Control pumps use the pin inside them. Some don't have it.
If you can't find where it goes, the pump probably didn't have one.
But look carefully, it could have been left out by someone. :)

IN all the pictures and videos I could not tell whether there was a little groove for it if it is supposed to go there. I will try to get more info posted on it. So maybe I can help you help me. I really appreciate all the help I am receiving on this forum I could not do this right without it.

If you'll scroll down through this thread about 10 pictures, you'll see several pictures that show the brass bushings and where the pin seal goes (if your pump takes one):
