Long stripe head

Postby jsfarmall » Sun Sep 13, 2020 12:49 pm

Working on a long stripe and needs the head replaced. Cracked across the top and goes into a bolt hole. No leaks yet but only a matter of time. Are all the heads the same or are long stripes different to accommodate the dome pistons?

The heads are the same.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thank ya! I was wondering cause I know of people with early cubs had trouble with dome pistons hitting the head.

Engine parts list calls for a different part number starting with tractor SN 312390. I believe this is the first longstripe SN.

Agreed. However, the domed pistons came in at 264568.

Hi,
312390 is the engine serial number of the 1st Longstripe Cub, in mid 1975.
The 1st Longstripe Cub was serial number 248125.

The Cub parts manual I use here doesn't show the older number of the head, or when a change was made.

http://www.farmallcub.info/manuals/cub_ ... 012-11.jpg

The older Cubs used head part number 251228R1.
Below are pics of one from TM Tractor.
